  If you live in Ireland and plan to take a driving vacation or you are visiting Ireland and plan to rent a car to tour the countryside, let me share... read more my experience. I have been to Ireland on multiple occasions. The first time we rented a car and visited the Cliffs of Moher and other well-known sites. We went home with memories of the beautiful countryside and a superficial understanding of the history and culture. Since then, we have hired a driver to take us to hot spots he recommended. Our driver was often hard to understand because of his brogue and only had a basic understanding of the sites he took us to with no real background.

Then a few years ago we made our key location at Larkinley Lodge in Killarney. Danial Sheehan one of the proprietors of the lodge also offers a tour driving service. We have hired him and have done so again on numerous occasions.

What separates him from other tour drivers? He has passed all seven levels of the National Tour Guide Program at Kerry College. I feel confident is saying that he would make an excellent Irish history instructor at any college or university. In addition to the well-known spots, like the Dingle Peninsula or the Ring of Kerry, Kilmacduagh Abby and The Wild Atlantic way, Mr. Sheehan knows SO MANY off the map spots to visit and he has the history background for each, as well of the country. And one last point I’d like to include: you will easily understand EVERY WORD he says. You will NOT be disappointed in Mr. Sheehan’s presentation, and you will go home with a wealth of new information on this beautiful country.

Daniel was an excellent guide and took us to some great spots as well as a few things we had wanted to see. MUCH better than a standard tour bus or anything along those lines, including driving it yourself.
